Drug Industry analysts say they expect Big Pharma companies to begin packaging their old drugs, that have come off patent and are experiencing lower growth and margins, as assets to be sold. Companies like Abbott Labs, Sanofi, Merck and AZ have all been mentioned as potential sellers. These four alone could reasonably sell off old drug portfolios to the tune of $42 B. That would generate cash that could conceivably be put toward new development and moving the company margins higher on sales of their remaining newer portfolios.
Probable buyers might include the likes of Valeant, Actavis and Mylan who are all looking to boost the sales of their generics portfolios. Has anyone checked out Craig's List to see if any of these properties are listed for sale? See Fierce Pharma.
