Here is another survey from the Total Biopharma - 2013 site. This is a short survey asking respondents to cite what they think "are the single biggest game changers in biosimilar sector" within the past 12 months and projecting to the next 12 months. Also responses to the biggest challenge to the field and biggest risk to the field are logged.
Biggest last 12 months event was deemed to tbe FDAs development of biosimilar guidelines for a US pathway. Although many other thoughts are also registered amongst respondents. The next 12 months biggest game changer is viewed to be the pending approval of the first biosimilar mAb in Europe -- a biosimilar version of Remicade. That is a biggie in my view too.
Among biggest game changer in past 12 months repsonses, I found mention of Amgen's "submarine patent for Enbrel" and Abbott's spirited defense of Humira (and innovator products generally against biosimilars) to be interesting citations among survey participants. It indicates that legal barriers and aversions to same may have slowing effect on biosimilar programs amongst the conservative organizations. I still believe that most World governments will be active backers of biosimilars just to cut their own healthcare costs if nothing else. So for the timid, there may be 'Nothing to fear but fear itself............?'
