The latest IMS report says the world drug market will grow faster through 2016 - where it will reach a total size of $1.2 trillion at a CAGR of 3-6%. Geographies outside the US, Europe and Japan will provide much of this growth, resulting in the global market share increasing to 43% in these other regions.
Global Drug Spending Is Forecast To Rebound // Pharmalot.
The "Big 3" regions are only expected to grow at 1% or by $3 B in 2012. Over the 2014-2016 period though, these regions will rebound to growth rates in the 1-4% range.
Emerging markets will grow to 30% of the world's total. Over the next 5 years, they are projected to increase their spending from $150 B to as much as $165 B by 2016. This equates to a CAGR of 12-15%.
Biologics are expected to account for $200 to $210 B of total sales globally in 2016. Of those, only $4 - $6 B is attributed to biosimilars. See the report above for more details.
