Roche beat the end of year holiday rush yesterday by acquring Marcadia Biotech - probably the last pharma deal of 2010. Marcadia is located in Carmel, IN and was founded by former Lilly executives.

The financial terms of the deal have no yet been disclosed. Roche indicated they would be forthcoming in their February financial report. Marcadia is a relatively small company but has been successful in raising venture funds for its obesity and diabetes drug programs. The company has partnered with Lilly and Merck in the past in these therapeutic areas. Roche has strong programs in both the diabetes and obesity areas thus fueling its interest in Marcadia.
