Ed Silverman's Pharmalot blog asked Sean Tunis, a former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services chief medical officer who now heads the non-profit Center for Medical Technology Policy, to explain the recent decision of CMS perform a national coverage review on Dendreon's Provenge.

One important opinion that Sean puts forth is that we shouldn't put too much stock in how this review may be taken as a harbinger of the type of routine cost effectiveness analysis that would be implemented under Obamacare. People shouldn’t try to read too much into this as to where Medicare policy is headed.
