From Pharmalot blog, the former head of the FDA's Office of Generic Drugs, Gary Buehler, will be taking his services private in joining the world's biggest generic producer, Teva Pharmaceuticals. Appropriately, he will assume the role of VP for Regulatory Strategic Operations.
Buehler should be well suited to helping Teva navigate the FDA as it devises policies on user fees for review of Generics. He can also help Teva and the industry lobby for policies that will ultimately govern the review of biosimilars. Teva, of course, is on record as wanting to be the world's leading biosimilar producer. Buehler is non-committal at this point, but did tell the WSJ that he is "curious about how the other side operates."
He'll get his chance in this role and should be able to add value for Teva.
