Biopharma needs value focused commercial model, says Quintiles.
In the interview, Featherstone points out that the increased pressures on R&D, manufacturing and clinical trials in the pharma industry - actually represent opportunties for commercial outsourcng partners. The challenge is for these outsourcing entities to provide more value throughout the value-chain. Not just traditional products and services, but enhanced offerings like better communication/ education with patients, payers and regulators. Service providers can offer the in-house expertise and experience in these areas that their clients may lack in either experience or manpower.
It's a new model of a full-service supplier that is trying to provide more integrated end-to-end solutions throughout the process. I think many vendors are seeing that partnering opportunities -- and commercial success -- ultimately depend upon their ability to provide this level of integration with their customer base.
When opportunity knocks, someone needs to step up and answer the door.
