China's government, specifically the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), is planning to spend $1.5B on drug development efforts in the next 5 years. As part of its next 5-year economic growth initiative, China will try to become a major global player in development and not just a source of cheaper labor for manufacturing and clinical trial work.
