Fierce Biotech has a feel good story this morning from the world of Alzheimer's research. It seems that a 2003 effort amongst the NIH, FDA, industry, universities and nonprofits to commit to sharing data on Alzheimer's biomarkers is PAYING OFF.
The project, called the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, is basically an open innovation effort where all parties share data in real time. By putting IP concerns aside, all parties have benefitted with greatly enhanced understanding of key biomarkers. This in turn may lead to other diseases', like Parkinson's, adopting this approach. See we're advancing the field.
