I'll start with an immediate apology to Frank Zappa even though he is not around to appreciate it.
in-Pharma Technologist reported the results of a Pfizer sponsored study today that claims that $14.3 billion worth of counterfeit drugs are sold in Europe each year - with as much as 38% of the purchases in Italy and Germany coming from "fakers". That's a lot of Viagra and Lipitor.
If the study is correct in its assertions, I think this is scary. It certainly gives more credence as to why regulatory bodies are looking for more traceability from raw materials to final product. We've all read about China and India related raw materials - but what about final product in Europe!
Looks like sites like Rx-360 will have a lifetime reason for being and e-pedigree can't come a moment too soon (except for minor issues like infrastructure & technology).
